Low Points of Two Thousand and Fourteen

01/02/2015
I thought since I posted my highlights of my year I should probably post the low points too.  Us travellers do like to pretend we are constantly having the time of our lives but life on the road can be lonely, back-breaking and very stressful at times. These are in no way negatives ... we'll call it experience.  My top low points of 2014: 1. Packing up our home A really sad moment of the year was packing up our apartment (with a hangover after my best friend's wedding might I add). After all the love and devotion that went into buying that flat and turning it into a home to just passing over the keys to someone else to, hopefully, take care of it. And of course selling and donating the majority of our belongings; our entire kitchen, all of my beautiful shoes, Shaun's van and trials bike and not to mention the hard work to do all of this.  Huge thanks to our friends and family for helping out with painting, moving boxes and storing our remaining belongings, and of course to my parents for having us move in for 2 months! Our jeep tour in Uda Walawe in central Sri Lanka.  We were given one cost up front then to be charged a different price at the end of the trip.  We had to pay for the jeep, our guide, our entrance fee (and our guides entrance fee) and then they expected extortionate tips on top too.  2. Airport taxis in Bali, Indonesia.  The airport taxis in Bali are the worst, most persistent menaces I have ever come across.  Feeling completely exhausted from our flight and battling to pass through the hundreds of taxi drivers we struck a deal with the last driver on the strip only for him to rip us off paying over 5 times the usual price which just so happened to be our last bit of cash. 3. Getting sick
Touch wood ... we had no Dehli-belly on our entire journey, even through Sri Lanka.  We did however, both land a severe ear infection which lasted about a week and made us change our travel plans as Shaun was hooked up to a drip in a Thai hospital.  It's times like that when you really just want to be at home in your own bed with a visit from your mum.
