Top 10 beauty saviours whilst travelling

Top 10 Beauty Saviours

So let's be honest, travellers can look pretty rough at times.  All those long haul flights, sleepless nights and too much Sangsom can really take their toll.  Here are a few of the best tricks I have to keep looking fresh and human.

1. Sun Cream

It would be very irresponsible of me not to recommend sun cream as my number one.  Not only will it protect you from sun burn and harmful rays but also that wrinkly skin later in life.  I always use sun cream on my face whether it be a moisturiser with SPF or foundation with SPF.  You should constantly be applying sun cream throughout the day.

2. Moisturiser

Go back to basics and invest in a good moisturiser.  The night before, and during flights, I like to load a thick layer of moisturiser on my face to keep it from drying out on the plane.  Equally, it is just as important every morning and night, especially if you have been out on the sun.

3. Moroccan Oil

It's always the hair that seems to make you look a bit wild and feral.  Humid or even dry conditions can make your hair take on the form of a birds nest.  I like to use a Moroccan Oil through damp hair after every wash and through dry hair to tame any frizziness.  Whilst travelling I don't tend to take a hair dryer and leave my hair to dry au naturel.  I do however like to take my straighteners for those odd occasions I want to look presentable.  Moroccan oil not only smooths your hair but it can also protect from the heat which is a bonus.

4. Dry Shampoo

Whether your out on a camping trip or too hungover to wash your hair, dry shampoo can gain you a few days.  I hate washing my hair and will leave it as long as I can so dry shampoo is a must.  Beauty hack for a cheap alternative: talcum powder!

5. Braids

As you can see there is a theme going on here. My theory is as long as your hair looks good the rest doesn't matter.  I live in plaits and braids.  Our little friend You Tube taught me how (check out You Tuber Kayley Melissa, she is the queen of braids).  A braid or two can instantly make you look polished or have effortless style.  And another plus is that the next day you have wavey textured hair to rock. 20141102_223340

6. Elizabeth Ardens Eight Hour Cream

I swear by this stuff.  It remedies everything.  On the flight out I like to smear over my lips to keep them hydrated as well as after a bit too much sun.  It is equally as good on the skin whether it be sunburn, peeling skin, mosquito bites and cuts.  It is pricey but a little goes a long way and is a life saver.

7. Nail Polish

I am the worst for having polished nails but I do make the effort to always have my toes painted.  For some reason on every trip I have ever been on I opt for my favourite polish by Revlon in the colour 900 One Perfect Coral.  It just seems to scream summer sun and looks awesome with a tan.

8. Brows

Day to day I don't tend to wear make up whilst travelling but I will always make my brows look tamed.  This will frame your face and make you look a little neater.  My eyebrows seem to disappear as they go very blonde in the sun so I like to either add I bit of coloured brow gel (Gimme Brow by Benefit) or add a bit of powder.  A gel would be better for staying power if you want to splash out (try Anastasia Beverley Hills Dip Brow Pomade).

9. Smell Fresh

Keep on top of the antiperspirant deodorant as there is nothing worse than a stinky traveller in a hostel dorm.  I have found nothing better than Rexona/Sure Clinical Protection.

10. Make Up Bag And to keep all of these goodies I use a clear plastic make up bag.  Boots sell a set of 3.  I use the largest for toiletries, the medium for make up and the little one for lip sticks and nail polishes (yes, I am a bit lipstick obsessed).  You can easily spot what you need and grab it instead of rummaging around opening everything.
